Conference Questions

Question:

Will there be a gift bag for registrants, and if so how can I get a cool novelty item included in it?

Thanks!

Question: I can only attend one day of the conference. I'm interested in learning more about searching. Should I attend the Searchers Academy on Sunday or the workshops in the Search Track on Monday?

Thank you!

Answer: A difficult decision. Experts on both days, different content in each day's program. The workshop on Sunday goes into a little more depth than some of the Monday sessions. But some topics on Monday may not be covered in the workshop.

Question:

We are trying to decide if we want to send someone to Internet Librarian or to Computers in Libraries. They seem similar. What is the difference, besides the location and dates? Thanks.

Answer: Similar yes, but IL is "nothing but net" so everything tries to be related to Internet and Web technologies. CIL is a little broader and brings in more systems and operations type sessions. The theme of IL this year is "Integrated Experiences: Compelling Content Combinations" and next year's CIL in Crysatl City VA, Apr 16-18 is focussed on "Beyond Library 2.0: Building Communities, Connections, Stragegies". The content is quite different, how about sending someone to each conference? We'd love to see them!

Question:

Do you offer continuing education credit certificates for your workshops or sesions?

Answer: No we don't however if a letter would work, we'd be happy to provide one.

Question:

What is the dress code for the conference?

Answer #1: There is no dress code -- anything goes. I'm a male speaker but you won't see me in a jacket and tie. Remember this is California. I will be wearing a nice shirt and slacks, but that's as dressed up as I'll get. So "business casual" is probably the word of the day.

Answer #2: Last year it was very very chilly - so remember to bring a jacket and maybe a sweater to wear when walking around town. I went thinking that CA would be warm - but I was cold the whole time!

Answer #3: I suppose it's all relative; I thought the weather was delightful, but then I'm from Minnesota. As for dress, I would agree that business casual is appropriate.

Question:

Do you offer one day 'Exhibition Only' registration for people who don't want to register for the full conference?

This feature is offered by the American Chemical Society for about $35

Answer: Absolutely. Sign up online at the IL site for exhibit only participation and enjoy our free cybertours as well as interesting exhibits.

Question:

Is there word yet whether there will be FREE wifi in the convention center this year?

Answer: Definitely in the Conference Center, which means the auditorium and around it. Not sure about other areas, but am checking.

Question:

Any idea when the list of Dine-Arounds will be available?

Answer: Coming soon, got a bit behind. Check on Oct 10th. And let Jane Dysart know if you want to be the host of one, or create your own topic.

Answer2: They're up: Official Dine Arounds
